Syd Barrett was an English musician, singer, songwriter, and artist who was a founding member of the band Pink Floyd. He was born in Cambridge, England in 1946 and was a major influence on the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s. He wrote many of the band's early songs, including "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play". His mental health deteriorated in the late 1960s, leading to his departure from the band in 1968. He released two solo albums, The Madcap Laughs and Barrett, before retiring from the music industry in 1972. He died in 2006 at the age of 60.
