The NASA Space Shuttle was the first reusable spacecraft, designed to carry astronauts and cargo into low Earth orbit. It was first launched in 1981 and flew 135 missions over the course of 30 years. It was powered by three main engines and two solid rocket boosters. It could carry up to eight astronauts and up to 24,400 kilograms of cargo. The Space Shuttle was the first spacecraft to be reused, and it was the first to be launched from a fixed launch pad. It was also the first spacecraft to be launched with a crew on board. The spacecraft was retired in 2011, and its last mission was the STS-135 mission, which was the final mission of the Space Shuttle program.
