Gladiator is a 2000 historical epic directed by Ridley Scott. The movie stars Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a Roman general who is betrayed by the emperor and sold into slavery. Maximus is forced to fight as a gladiator in the Colosseum, where he quickly becomes a fan favorite.
